Many of you recognise these garingly orange pencils and might have even used them before. For those who are unfamiliar, Shanghai-based China First Pencil Co Ltd is the first manufacturer of test pencils in the nation. Originally opened in 1935, the factory sought to increase China’s supply of pencils in a self-sufficient manner. The model pictured below is made of refined lead and has high-quality density, meaning it is smooth to touch and easy to work on different mediums with. The alternative red and black stripes remind me of old saloons whilst its packaging is similar to a box of matchsticks.
