Can Transference Ever Be Something Neutral?

In psychology, the concept of ‘transference’ refers to the specific feelings a client may or may not have toward her therapist. Over a certain length of time, a patient may subconsciously become more reliant on the sessions that follow, due to the level of support the former party gets from the latter. This begs the question of whether transference could happen devoid of any emotion at all?
